About me

I acknowledge the Gumbaynggirr people, who are the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I live and work. I recognise their deep and enduring connection to Country, and that their collective knowledge has allowed this land and its ecosystems to thrive for countless generations. The beauty and richness of Australia’s landscapes are a result of the care, respect, and custodianship of First Nations peoples. I pay my respects to their Elders, past and present.
This always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.

Kia ora - welcome to my page

I am Adrienne, a kiwi living in Australia. I have been working with sharks since 2021 and have loved every moment. I am driven to understand their movements, behavior, and physiology, and committed to conserving chondrichthyan species in the face of increasing anthropogenic climate change and fishing pressure.

I enjoy science communication and run the Instagram account @sharksandscience. I actively engaging in various outreach activities and co-founded and lead the science facilitation of the Young Marine Biologists Program, have hosted Gills Club events, given public talks both in person and online, and delivered hands on shark education to undergraduate students. I love photography and using photos to connect with communities and share knowledge with the world.

I am a member of the Science Technology Australia (STA) Equity Diversity and Inclusion committee, Oceania Chondrichthyan Society (OCS) General Council,  Australian Society of Fish Biology (ASFB) Future of Our Society Committee,  and am Higher Degree Researcher Student Rep on Southern Cross University's Academic Board.

My PhD is due to be submitted in mid 2026 after which I will be looking to continue in the research field and will be seeking post-doc opportunities within Australia and globally.
